Stonehenge, Bath and Lacock in a small group

A mini-coach of at most 16 leaves Marble Arch at 7:30 AM to reach Stonehenge early, then spends two hours at the Roman Baths and finishes with Lacock and the Avebury stones. Pick it for the small group and the Roman Baths ticket, not for the inner circle: you see the stones from the visitor path.

Bath, Lacock & Stonehenge Small Group

About this experience

International Friends runs this day in an executive mini-coach, with a maximum of 16 guests according to its own site. The operator uses 8-seat or 16-seat vehicles depending on numbers. You leave the Cumberland Hotel at Marble Arch at 7:30 AM, drive out along an old Roman road past Silbury Hill and a White Horse hill carving, and aim to reach Stonehenge before the big coaches, which is how the operator plans the day.

Stonehenge is a standard ticket: you see the stones from the visitor path, not inside the circle, with 1 hour 30 minutes on site. Then comes the part this tour does best. The Viator listing includes entry to the Roman Baths, and the itinerary gives you 2 hours in Bath, enough for the baths and a quick lunch. It's the only day trip on this site with Roman Baths entry included as standard.

The last two stops are short. Lacock gets about 30 minutes and Avebury about 30, each with a guided walk. One guest wished for more time in Lacock, another found the day "fast paced". The operator's site lists Tuesdays and Wednesdays as the running days, so check your date early. At $251 it costs nearly as much as the inner circle day: you pay for the small group, not for access to the stones.

What guests say

★★★★★

Tony was an excellent tour guide and held engaging conversation throughout the day with our small group. It was a welcome change from the large bus tours and we were never rushed through any of the sites - we were the first ones at Stonehenge and everyone got excellent pictures that morning.

It was good to get to the stones early with less people. We had about 2 hours in Bath which is enough for a quick tour of the roman baths plus lunch. Lacock is a really pretty village and we had a very quick look at the Avebury stones.

This tour was with a group of 6. The small group made the trip most enjoyable. Easy access and personal conversations with the tour guide.

Our guide, Valentina, was very attentive to everyone. She also knew her history. But, I have to say she was INTREPID as she led us through a sheep pasture in the rain to show us the stones at Avebury.

Tips before you book

  • Eat a proper breakfast. The first food stop is Bath, and a guest warned not to "plan a long leisurely lunch".
  • Use the 2 hours in Bath for the Roman Baths first, then grab lunch near the abbey.
  • Wear shoes for wet grass: the Avebury walk can cross a sheep field.
  • Want the day for your own group? The operator also offers a private version of this trip.
  • Be outside the Cumberland 10 minutes early: the listing asks for it, and the coach leaves at 7:30 AM.
